Hi there and a happy new Year to everybody ! :)

My System Environment is as follows :

Asus CUSL2 Motherboard
1x Dimm Apacer PC133 ECC 256MB 5.4ns
Elsa Gladiac Geforce 2 GTS 32MB DDR Ram Graphicboard
IBM Deskstar GXP75 45GB Harddrive

I also have a 122 Watt Peltier and a Watercooler with all the necessary Equipment.

My old CPU was a S3Y2 Intel Pentium III 800 EB and it sucked. So now I am looking for a new CPU. Somebody told me that I should look for E CPU's because they would run on a higher multiplier and I could O/C the FSB to 133 MHZ or more anyways. He also told me to look for a CPU with cC0 stepping.

I read on the Internet that many people believe that 700 MHZ CPU's are more overclockable than 800 MHZ CPU's ???

Bottom line, I am a little confused an I appreciate any and all Input. Please let me know what CPU, E or EB, how many MHZ, Stepping and batch code you would recommend for reaching speeds of 1.2 - 1.4 GHZ.

Regards

Timo

I don't really see 1.2 - 1.4 Ghz as a realistic target for a novice.

If you buy a cC0 700, you should acheive 933 no sweat.

The reason for 700's being better than 800's for overclocking is that the sweetspot of the coppermine process is at approximatley 950Mhz. The 800 is at a funny FSB when it reaches 950Mhz and hence it makes the PCI bus run high.

The 700 on the other hand runs the FSB at 133 to get 933 and thus the PCI bus runs at normal speed.

You get the same problem with people buying Celeron 700's only to find that they are nowhere near as good to overclock as Celeron 566's and 600's. A small amount of mathematics will prove this theorum.

Wherever you got the idea of a feasible 1.2 - 1.4Ghz overclock from is a funny one. I'd need something like super-refrigeration on a coppermine and the national grid of electricity to achieve that.

I just bought a PIII 700 E SO4CH. I am pretty sure that I will be able to run 1.2 GHZ with a little luck. In fact, the guy that I bought it at brought it to 1052 MHZ with the stock Heatsink and Fan. So, I hope that I'll get lucky with my Peltier and Watercooler and I don't see the 1.2GHZ as a problem.

Whatever happens, I will keep everybody posted. Once my Project is completed I will mail pictures :)

I just love the way my Gladiac looks :)))

Thanks for your help

Don't get your hopes up, my friend! :) 1.2 GHz is still a lot, and a 500MHz performance gain isn't likely. You know that your FSB will be at more than 170MHz, right? That is quite a lot! If I were you, I would be happy with a gig or 1.05.

Best of luck to you anyway!

Well, check out these samurai overclockers ....2 gigs and over?...well see for yourself.

What can I say.... other than "crazy Jap's"? :)

Btw., I'm not saying that they are lying or anything, but I can also hit 2gig with my Celly366 - just give me 5 mins with Photoshop! 8)

Those boys are into EXTREME modifications to the motherboards. They have probably never seen a normal piece of application software. Benchmarking is these guys lives, with typical Japanese efficiency.
