got my pIII700@933 - temp seems fine (35C). i smell something strange coming from my tower. am i doing damage?

35c in itself shouldn't be a factor. You could be developing a failure that has nothing to do with the overclock. You may want to feel around in there and see if you can locate some other component that is abnormally warm. How are you measuring the temps?

well i run the hardware doctor program that has a cpu temp monitor. i also placed my wire thermometer by the cpu. i have also double checked the readings in the bios. everthing seems cool. i don't smell it anymore. could it have been the thermal paste? or what about the adhesive the i use with the themometer? i aslo have a HSF on the back of the slokcet and i used some very high end thermal condcuctive padding. could that start to burn and give off a smell? after feeling around, the only thing that is really hot is the chips on my voodoo5, but those have always ran hot - even before o/c.

Perhaps it's your power supply. Possibility that your fan may have gone bad in there... just a possibility.
