I'm looking at replacing my ancient 300W PSU (although it is a Powerman/Fortron) with a newer one. Does anybody have any experience with Termaltake's 420W PSU?

Spec/Cost-wise, it seems to be a better choice than the Fortron 400W.

the problem with thermaltake is that they make u pay a VERY high price for something u could otherwise get for a lower price AND get a better psu...the fortron 530w would definitely beat any thermaltake product mainly because they under-rate their psu's and test them at very high temperatures, where as other companies test wattage output at lower temps, to make their psus seem like a good one when it really isnt. (higher psu operating temperature = lower psu wattage output)

if u are willing to spend that much, u might as well get the fortron 530w for just a bit more expensive, but that price for the thermaltake doesnt seem to bad...another good choice is the fortron 350w, it is very nice, i run it in my system and have had no problems as of yet regarding vcore or any voltage stability problems, many ppl here in the forums recomend it highly linky (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=17-104-966&catalog=58&manufactory=BROWSE&depa=0)

the two best psu's for ur money are the fortron 350w and 530w...just an fyi

the fortron 350w peaks out at around 400-500 watts output (cant remember exact number), as i sed b4, fortron under-rates their psu's, so u would get something that is actually more "powerful" then it is rated, think of it as a car putting out more hp then it is rated to...

What dalilman52 said. Thermaltake is usually overpriced and the quality isn't that great compare to others. Antec is pretty good as well but that might be a bit more expensive than Thermaltake.

Better "spec-wise" how?
Higher numbers?

IMhO, ... you would do much better going by user experiences
rather than looking for the PSU that has the highest
amp specs.

Quality over Quantity!

This 400w Fortron is very stable so far.
Rarely more than a 0.05v deviation under load. (DMM)

There are much better choices than the Thermaltake's for the same money...Fortron 530 is a beast...More especially considering the 75.00 price tag...The 350watt Fortron with the single 120m/m is a also an extremely solid supply considering the price...Antec's are also very good supply's...They do cost more...Really you cant touch Fortron's in a dollar for dollar comparison with just about anything on the market...Get one...You will not be dissapointed...:D
