WHEN I SET THE FSB TO 85 AND THE SYSTEM IS LOADING THE WIN98 IT GIVES ME THE MESSAGE :WINDOWS PROTECTION ERROR.I HAVE TO RESTART
MY SYSTEM:GF2 MX,CEL 700,ASUS CUV4X
WHAT IS GOING WRONG
The typical culprits are excessive heat and Vcore- the cpu gets very warm during boot up, and because of the heat it may balk at Windows start up. If you have good cooling this isn't such an issue. Many processors need additional Vcore to run reliably at higher FSB's- even Intel uses higher voltages on their faster chips. Try increasing Vcore to 1.75-1.8v and see if it helps.
Another method is to use SoftFSB and see if you can run at higher FSB AFTER you get into Windows at a lower speed. If this works, and booting at that speed doesn't it usually means you need more cooling or a beefier power supply.

Sounds like the hdd does not like 85mhz to me....older maxtors and WD's were famous for it...can u borrow another hdd from somebody to see? try moving to PIO mode 3, this might help. If you have an older hdd, I would suspect it second, ram 1st....one more thing is your P.S. up to it?
Good Luck
