Yo-

My unit runs rock solid @887 (148fsb) at stock voltage, but when I try 900 (at any voltage) it only boots to the video bios (just before post) and freezes. All I want to know is: does this probably mean the video card can't handle this bus speed? Is there any way to tweak the bios to help the video card? Or could it also be due to something else? Anything I could mess around with for awhile and try is much appreciated. My specs are below. BTW, if I run the memory at 4/3 it doesn't boot at all (weird). Peace out.

I have the same CPU and mobo I am currently running at 841 Mhz. You don't say anything about temp I ditched by orb long ago for a Global Win VOS-32 it keeps the CPU a lot cooler than the orb. If heat is not the issue then I would guess it is either your video card or ram holding you back

Thanks for the input, big daddy. Yeah, sorry about not posting temps...I actually agree w/ you about the possible problem...at full load I run at about 42C and that's with the case open...I do have arctic silver on there at least (very thin layer)...so do you have a slot 1 600e or flip chip? Mine is a slot 1 so I'm curious as to which cooler would be best. I definately don't mind throwing down for a new one...damn orb was only $12 anyway...POS!!

I know that last summer people were discussing a problem with the "clock generator" on the P3V4X. The generator would apparently get too hot. People were putting a heatsink on the generator to fix this. Don't know if that the problem or not. That's everything that I remember on the problem though.

P-Dawg I have a slot 1 CPU and I am using a Global Win VOS-32 I wanted an Alpha but it would not fit in the case I had at the time so I went with the Global Win. I think they are pretty close in perfomance but the Global Win is a lot cheaper.

Thanks for the input, guys...I actually have a heatsink on the ICS chip, but thanks for the thought...that h/s actually allowed me to go from 828 to the 887 I'm at now...I really think my problem is heat and not the video card. I upped the vio voltage which gets me past the post screen consistently but I freeze up a lot in windows (especially when cpu is utilized). I do have a POS orb and a POS case (not much airflow). I think that's the next step...I've heard a lot of good things about the sx830 case. Any feedback?

P.S.- I'm ordering a vos-32 as we speak...the orb's going in the toilet (I hope it doesn't clog it up since it is a large POS)

I think a Viking funeral might me a little too classy for an orb. Maybe a shallow grave somewhere would be more apropo.

The big factor in high bus speeds, (for me at least) is the 1/2 agp devider in the 815e chipset, and for cooling the chip
I am using the Alpha p3125, and dual 3dfxcool fans with my 600e (slot1)also with arctic silver, and my temps are cpu24c,mobo 25c and this is @ 157fsb...and NO peltier
of course my mem is only at cas3, it would do cas2 up to 154fsb, after that I had to dumb it down. I think I'm ready for Mushkin's new hi perf rev3 stuff, so I can go back to cas2 at this speed

PDawg the Antec case is awsome that is the case that I am using and it is great my case temp is the same as ambeint room temp and it lowered my CPU temp by more than a couple of degrees. I can not say enough good about it so don't hesitate just get one you won't be sorry
