are 18" cables long enough or should i go with 24"?

It really depends where you have your IDE conectors on the mobo.
I had no trouble using 18 inch cables with that case and DFI Lanparty Ultra B (two optical drives mounted on the top 2 bays).

Tell us what motherboard you are using and I am sure we can tell you what would be the best cable lengths for you application...:D
