I've been folding for team 32 for awhile now. (had to get that outta the way before the recruit messages come my way... spend that recruit time on those darn SETI people!:D )
For my Biology class, we had to pick a controversial topic and write an 8-page research paper about it, presenting both sides. I chose my topic to be Viral Engineering, simply because everyone else chose the common Stem Cell Research, etc.
I finally sat down to do some hardcore writing tonight, and at about page 5, I realized how much F@H contributes even to a field as comparatively unknown as Viral Engineering. All the limitations to the cancer and Parkinson's treatments are due to our not-so-hot understanding of DNA expression, and the fact we have a hard time synthesizing proteins to help bind to specific cells. The protein part is ENTIRELY folding related.
Looking at the 4 rigs in this house folding, I felt proud that not only was I contributing to the best team ever (W00T!) and some great medication research, but we're also contributing indirectly to cancer treatment, understanding of prions, and tons of other nifty stuff....
Just thought you'd guys appreciate the fact a paragraph in my paper now mentions F@H and it's impact on the tech....
