Hi all

Im new here but have clocked my p3 700 to 933 i have also got a creative geforce mx and a abit se6 motherboard .

The problem is i have just baught alfas top cooling fan for all slot a and pentium 3 cpus but when its running the temp goes to about 43 46 which i thaught seems quite hot for a super fan ??

Also when i tryed to clock a bit higher i went to about 960 the system kept hanging then i couldnt seem to get it working past about 800 mark any ideas

thanks all

Typically the Alpha's provide the highest levels of cooling obtainable. Are you using a THIN layer of thermal compound between the cpu die and the heatsink? You want a layer no more than a few molecules thick, or else it starts to act as an insulator for heat. You want it to be square on the die, making as much contact as possible.

I have several machines overclocked to 1GHz using Alpha PEP66's and the temps top out around 40c after running Seti for hours/days.

Case cooling is also required to allow the heatsink/fan to work efficiently. A fan at the bottom front of the case blowing cool air into the case, and another fan at the top rear blowing out is the recommended minimum. You need to remove the heat from the case for the system to be efficient. I recently changed fans on one of my cases to fans that were a little more potent, and my CPU temps dropped 5 degrees without other changes.

Also make sure your power supply fan is blowing out, and not into the case.
