Just got back from the computer show in Chicago were i picked up a P3 700e slot 1 OEM for $163.
I picked out a SL4c3 cC0 stepping Philippines chip.
right away it did 150 fsb 1050mhz idle temp 30c
under load never going above 34c voltage at 1.75 . My only prob.
at this speed is my asus v7700 deluxe gts2 gets wierd
it wont let me change refesh rate on monitor above
60 mhz , I usually run it at 85mhz but the options get grayed out at this speed. Also in device manager my monitor shows up as unknown but the display is fine. same thing at 140mhz fsb.
but everything goes back to normal running at 133mhz
fsb voltage stock 1.7 IM HAPPY ! :P

system: MB Asus P3B-F
P3 700@931mhz/Alpha P3125
128mb Muskin 133 rev.2
promise ultra66 controller
Western Digital 20 gig
Asus V7700 delux GTS2
19" Dell trinitron monitor P991 (sony insides)
sound blaster X-GAMER
HP 9300 CDRW
Acer 16x DVD
2 80mm fans in and 60mm and 80mm out. also slot fan out under agp.

And this is the beauty of a small proportion of cC0 chips, beware however that they are not all so good!!!!

I know of some cC0's that are gagging for it and some that are just not.

....but congratulations all the same, and well done for choosing a sensibly clocked chip in the first instance - 700 has a good FSB/multiplier/threshold ratio, I read all too often of idiots with Celeron 700's and Pentium 3 850's who are trying to reach the next PCI divider of 100Mhz or 133Mhz respectively and forbeying the threshold of the chip.

Wise choice my friend.

These cC0 slot 1's seem to be overclocking pretty well. This is the 4th chip I recall hearing about (all 700's) and all have seemed to go up to at least 1050 MHZ without problem. This is a pretty small universe of CPU's but perhaps this may be a trend with slot 1 cC0's. I've got one coming my way that is guaranteed for 1050 and claimed to be able to run at 1085 MHZ.

Mako,
I took a look at your problem again and came up with an idea(but not necessarily a solution). I too have had problems changing the refresh rate when my monitor is picked up as "default monitor". This may not work if your system is acting up but you can go into device manager and then go to update the monitor driver. If windows "searches for the best driver" and doesn't find the right monitor, click the back button but select "Display a list of all the drivers in a specific location, so you can select the driver you want". Then find your monitor manufacturer and select the mode.
