Does that apply to Mother-In-Laws?
Because the next time I have to go to her house and show her how to read her email, I'm borging her machine.

Family might get mad, but I believe that part of the sticky is mainly there as a statement of appropriate etiquette and as a warning for legal reasons. You shouldn't go borging your place of employments computers in the name of team 32 without permission.
If you want to borg her computer without her knowledge I suppose thats mostly a personal decision, but what makes you so sure that she wouldn't let you if you told her you were going to do it?
If she wouldn't let you if you told her then you really shouldn't do it. One processor is not going to make a world of difference - they aren't worth "stealing".
Well, forget borging. She just called again. I told her if she wanted me to come over she had to commit her machine to folding. She agreed. The nice thing is, she never turns her machine off, she doesn't know how believe it or not. So now I have a new question. I have my main rig folding, I have the kids machine folding, and now I'm going to pick up the xp2200+ my mother-in-law has. Do I just download the client onto her machine and set it up the same way I did mine? Do I have to change the ID or anything?
Wow, talk about a coincidence. I was writing my last post as you were, IMOG. I truly have permission, blackmailed as it is. She just got her first computer a couple of months ago and she is 60 years old. When my wife and I got our first computer 12 years ago, she said they were the work of the Devil. Now she has one. And she has no clue how to operate it. So as fair payment, her machine folds as long as I have to continue to tolerate her.
BTW, My WIFE suggested borging it!
Anyway, this thread title was kind of meant to be humorous...
I guess it didn't come out that way. I would have borged it in a heartbeat the next time I went over there, which is tomorrow morning, now. But now I have permission. My wife is yacking away on the phone with her now even as I type this.
Isn't it odd how things happen?

That was my original thought. An even funnier note is that while she was on the phone with my wife (obviously her daughter) they discussed F@H. My wife asked her if she understood what I was telling her. My dear old mother-in-law said she didn't care what I did as long as she could get this Google tool bar thingy everybody was talking about!

Three words: "Google Toolbar Hack".
By saying you can do anything but keep the toolbar she just explicitly gave you permission.
That's the way I see it. Now, with a slk-900 and a tornado, maybe a bios flash...

Yup, the google toolbar is great ....... for BORGING! I have used it in the past as a way to borg and it works great, but I still think the console or graphical are both faster.

She can't even shut off her computer! My wife told me the other day that her mom leaves her computer on all the time because she didn't know she had to turn it off. All she does is turn off the monitor and she thinks the computer is off!

First thing in the morning. My brother-in-law is next. I will talk to my nephew first though. It's his machine and he is only 17. I will have to do some persuading there. Who knows, by Sunday night I might have nearly 8 gig folding for the home team.

It would be better to go ahead and use the service install if your mother-in-law's machine is able to fold gromacs. The Google toolbar is not able run gromacs, just tinkers. You will gain a tremendous advantage with the service install (http://www.ocforums.com/vb/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=250599).

As long as they aren't running win98 or WinME you can use the service install which I do recommend. And as far as the original question goes, In my book you don't have to ask the family for permission since you become the free tech support/computer guy anyways. :D

It's running XP. As an update, I loaded the service install and got it folding. Unfortunately her temps shot up over 20ºC. I had mbm set for alarm at 65. It only took an hour and a half to set the alarm off. NUTS! I have to find a spare cpu fan to put on it. I haven't opened the case, but from the sound of the machine, it's only using the p/s fan probably with a duct like the older gateways.

I love this thread. I've been thinking about it and have decided not to work on any of my family's computers unless they agree to let me install F@H.
