I have tried to overclock this thing through the bios and even at reletively low levels ex.770, it will boot, but then crash on just about every program. From what I understand, this is a pretty crappy processor for overclocking(wish I had known that when I got it). Anyhow, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Here are the specs on my system. PIII-733,Microstar MS6199 mobo,Apollo Pro Plus chipset,V3 video. Thanx!!

What kind of cooling are you using?

I am not using anything other than the stock heatsink. Forgot to mention, have 256 ram set to turbo, and processor is set at 1.65v.

try upping the voltage if possible in very small incriments...

oh yeah definately ditch the stock heatsink (unless it's a decent one) and get one with fans etc... look for a reputable company like CoolWin

dolomyte,

Yeah, your CPU is 733 that is clock multiplier locked at 5.5 so that is quite hard to overclock much. If you got 700E which runs at 7x #mhz FSB and you have much better potential overclocking. I made the same darn mistake with P3 800EB. Changing to better Alpha series HS would help your current CPU for OC'ing though.

Thanx guys for the suggestions. Actually there is a fan on the heatsink, and the temp runs very cool. I tried upping the voltage a little to 1.70 and 1.75 and it booted and ran benchmarks fine, it was just when I ran games that it would crash. Crap, just remembered that the Voodoo 3 is overclocked to 179mhz, maybe that could be the problem with the games.Try again setting it back to default. Thanx!!!!!!!

Try setting the I/O volts to 3.4 or 3.5 - that may help your video card some.

go tpo 1.85 or 1.95 volts if your cooling is good

i have a P3 700 cb0 @ 1008mhz @ 1.95 volts

been running for 9 months
