It's cb0 stepping- they aren't bad for overclocking, but 1GHz is a crapshoot for any coppermine core. Check the cpu database on the opening page for more details.

p3 850 would be better? why, so you can run at 117fsb, and get crap performance?. Another idiot. If you knew anything, you would know that a higher fsb can give 1 or 2 speed grades of extra performance. for example, I run a 600e at 165 fsb, and get way better performance than a stock 1 ghz p3. P3 850 costs far too much anyway. A 750 will be awkward if it doesnt make 133 bus, all you can do is cross your fingers.

I've had great luck with Celeron II 600, stepping CC0, had 3 of them all go over 1000, one to 1108 with just the aid of a Goldern Orb.

Don't know if this is the same step you're looking for, but this place has slot 1 P-III 750E chips.

I dont know whats in the rest of your soup ( mobo, cooling, case, video, ram) but like tim said that cB0 750 is a crapshoot.

I'd say you got 6 out 10 chance to get that to 1GHz, your chances get better if you use more exotic cooling techniques.

good luck

I just installed a 700e cBO stepping this past week and am running at 980Mhz (140 bus) with 1.75vcc so you have a good chance at it. The problem is that the higher the chip rating the lower your chances are for higher FSB. I am using air cooling with artic silver and PEP66 on mine, so no super special freezes and it is running 29C idle 33C average 44C high using torture test. Have not tried higher vcc settings yet but most say it may take 1.85 to 1.90 to get 1008Mhz. Burning in with Prime95 for couple of weeks before I go for 144fsb and increased vcc.
