I have been reading Dan Edgeradvise on how to overclock my cpu. In checking my bios I found one item that dod not x out. My bios allows me to change the cpu base frequency from 66 to 100 which gives me a cpu speed of 600. The cpu multiplier stays at x6. I can change that in small increments which is contrary to Dans writings, If we are speaking of the same setting. It is a celeron 400 chip. Also when changing the base frequency to 100 the sdram changes to 100, which is what is in the machine.
Question: Are the x settings named the, cpu multiplir factory. the settings to overclock or should I just change the base frequency to 100 and leave other settings alone, or change the (x) settings to change the other settings automaticly.

Hello Theo, I moved your post to the "Intel CPU" topic where I think you will find more help.

Any Intel chip since 1998 is multiplier locked(unless you run across an engineering sample) so the only oc you will get is with FSB adjustments.

The bios will accept a new value for the multiplier, and send that info to the cpu which will ignore it. It's the cpu thats locked, not the MB or bios.
