Im thinking od selling my Sony Mz-N1 minidisc player and getting an ipod 20gb mp3 player, but my only prob with it is the price. The best price Ive seen is $579 CDN... anyone know of a better price? place to get one in Canada? Or better yet more specificly Toronto?

You can try looking at Futureshop or Bestbuy. When they have a labour day sale, you might be able to score one for less than $579.

i dont know about the ipod, OR the canadian price converison...
http://www.iriveramerica.com/products/iHP-120.asp

but that is what i want. twice as long battery life as the ipod, not apple, (heh heh heh) and its cool. Also has a 20G, last i checked.

"The iRiver iHP-120 is the ultimate digital audio player. Listen to over 600 hours of your music or tune in to the built-in FM radio. With a rechargeable battery that lasts up to 16 hours, ultra-fast USB 2.0 file transfers and simple navigation, the iHP-120 is the music player of choice.
MSRP: $399.99 "

Ive heard that the Ipod uses itunes for windows... does that mean that if I have my own Mp3s already, I wont be able to put them onto the ipod? Will I have to purchase all my songs from itunes in order to have them on the ipod?

No. You can buy MP3s and use them as in it suports iTunes, but your "legally ripped" mp3s are fine.

Dell's got a really cool one out. http://www1.ca.dell.com/content/products/category.aspx/dj?c=ca&cs=CADHS1&l=en&s=dhs.

It's 399 Canadian so it's a great deal. It's got a 20 GB hard drive and the battery lasts up to 16 hours. I prefer this over the iPod.

The iPod has a bad rep of having its internal battery die and it is non replaceable and not covered under warranty, eventually the battery life drops significantly then stops working, this happens to a goodly number of them after around 6 months. Search for like the iPod secret and you should find some stuff about it.

Its more like 18 months and they are replaceable they are just kinda expensive like all rechargable batteries (which all eventually die)

are these problems with the ipod with the current generation?

so far they have only been with first gen. due to time

eventually all batteries DIE

How about the I-river, anyone know where to purchase that in Toronto? Canada? Are you capable of removing the battery from the iriver? What about sound quality? Which is better? Ipod or iriver 120? What are the advatages of both models? disadvantages?

ViolaDude

why not look @ the specs of both and do your own comparision as opposed to have everyone else do it for you.....

Sorry to sound rude.

Thanks for the suggestion mr.Guvernment... I didnt think of looking at the specs of both and comparing them on my own... OF COURSE I DID!! Im not a fool. Gezzz, dude. I just wanted peoples real world experience and not just the specs.

Specs mean very little for audio quality, go see if you can listen to both of them. Side by side is prefeerable.

Im probably going to wait to see what the new 4th Gen Ipod will be like (in March/April) before going either way on my decision.
