Hey Guys,

I'm trying to O/C my old p233mmx chip it runs 233 at 66FSB x 3.5, yet when I try to o/c it to 4.0 it posts at 133mhz, whats up with that and how can I fix it?

Most Intel Cpu's have been Multiplier Locked since the P133. This leaves only two methods of overclocking them. Increase the FSB. And increase the Core Voltage. As you've dicovered, trying to change the Fixed Multiplier results in a decrease in performance. The Fixed Multiplier cannot be changed. Period.

Thanks for the input.

Well I cant increase the FSB till SoftFSB comes out with a plug-in for my clock chip, it can do 83mhz, but board only has jumpers for 60 and 66.

So should I try increasing my voltage?

Thanks

Ack n/m
Bumped it up from 2.8v to 3.0v no differrence, just ran hotter, arg, guess I'll have to wait till I get my K6-2 550mhz.

yeah yeah yeah I know AMD.... I am a hard core intel fan... but.... AMD is freaking cheap! I mean come on! I'm not rich here! :)

Plus intel didnt make anything over 233 for socket 7, that I know of, AMD made a chip to the limit of Socket 7 550mhz, perfect for me, although I wont be able to get over 400mhz unless I can speed up my FSB :(
