Is it worth to pay twice as much (80 more) for the piii
over the cel2?
I have an abit bx6.2, pc133 ram, adaptec scsi card,
cl geforce2 card, etc... I am currently running an cel300a
at 464.

thanks for your opinion.

What is important to you? Computing Power? or raw percentage overclock gain?

You can probably get a larger percentage gain out of the Celeron-2-- but if you want real computing gains, get the P3-700.

I can only get a 45% overclock out of my P3-700-- but I'd guess it will way out perform the C2-600 at a 60% overclock. It is a matter econoimcs and what you want. . . It is hard to compare-- they really are different aninmals. Dogs are great pets-- but you aren't going to "ride thru the desert on a dog with no name. . . "

I personally have a celeron II 633 currently clocked at 950..STABLE...and best thing is....its socket 370! I have a golden orb for cooling and three modded case fans blowing on the cpu...thats the kicker...keeps the procy runnin' at a cool 80 C! Defialy a good choice:)..oh yeah..i have a VL6 motherboard.

well, I guess I am asking is it worth twice the price for the speed difference
between the oc celeron and oc piii.

It really depends on your application for the computer. The overclocked celerons are a great system and offer great speed for casual use. If you do normal hobby/home/business things they are great and operability is fine. Get a good amount of RAM (say 256MB) and you're set for a good, long time.

However, if you work with large databases, do a lot of CAD work, video editing, or graphic arts, the PIII will eat it alive. If you are a hard core gamer, and getting the maximum frame rates is important to you, the PIII is also the best choice. If you don't do these things you'll probably never notice much difference.
