View Full Version : HELLLP!! Expert needed on ram on 700 @1090
I have a 700e at 1090 or 155fsb. It will run fine if my ram timings are set to 333. I ordered a special stick of ram from a place I won't mention for now that was guarenteed to run at 160 cas222. Well guess what. It will only run at 333 at 155fsb just like my stick of crucial pc133 cas2 will only run at 333 at this speed. Could it be some other issue other than the ram that wont allow me to run at 222. It is stable at 155 cas333 I run prime 95 torture test at night when Im sleeping and it hasnt crashed yet at these speeds. I also play a lot of q3 and it is solid. The rest of my sytem here if it could help.
BE6 II rev 2
gf2
crucial pc133 cas 2
some ram guaranteed at 160 cas222
maxtor 20 gig 7200 rpm
I am going to request another stick and see if this will solve the problem before I post anything about the place I bought it from I would just like to isolate the ram as the problem and Im not sure if I can. If it runs fine at 333 and not at 222, I think it is the ram. I get registry errors on my crucial stick at 222 and I get bluescreens on the other stick.

I don't know what type of RAM you got but the Mushkin PC133 rev3 is great!! It is guaranteed up to 150MHz but I've had it higher than that at CAS 222 with no problems.

BTW, if you can run it at CAS 333 ok, it does sound like the RAM not being able to make 222. Have you tried testing to see what speed the 222 setting fails at?

I use that Crucial memory too( http://www.crucial.com/index.asp?imodule=CT16M64S4D7E ) in about 3 different systems and I can run (2)-128Mb sticks at 150 FSB at 2-2-2 so I know it's some good memory. I have an ASUS CUSL2 with a PIII 700@1050. I have tried running this Crucial memory at 155 FSB at 2-2-2 and I was able to boot into Windows and it ran pretty well in 2D. Prime95 will usually fail after 5 or 10 minutes however. In my opinion, the failure is probably from the CPU(in my case at least) rather than the memory because 1085 MHZ is pushing a PIII 700 pretty hard and the temp is getting up around 110F under full load. I usually encounter problems when posting if the memory can't handle it. I would tend to think that the problem may be with the board or maybe even the BX chipset. I've heard of people running at 150 FSB at 2-2-2 on BX boards but I can't recall hearing of people going higher than this though.
I actually just got a new cCo PIII 700 slot 1 that runs pretty well at 1050 MHZ on a P3B-F(tops out at 150 FSB). The person I got it from indicated he was able to run it at 1085 MHZ. I've actually got an MSI BX Master coming to me sometime in the next week. This board will go all the way up to 155 FSB. I will let you know if I have any luck running the Crucail memory at 2-2-2 at 155 FSB on this board.

Also, you may want to try putting the memory in all 3 different slots. I had a BF6 before(very similar to the BE6-II) and the memory slot furthest away from the CPU did not work very well when used by itself.
Thanks for the replys so far my crucial is stable up to 149fsb cas 222 and I can run it up to 153 in 2d but like you 3dapps fail and so does prime 95. I will try to see what settings the new ram can handle at 222 but it failed the test at 150 fsb cas 222 so I think it is a ram compatibility issue. Anyone running a bx board at 155 that can help me here?
Ok I have some good news and some bad news. I cant get this ram to run stable over 150fsb cas 222 but I have now been able to achieve 161 fsb at 333 where as my crucial would only do 155. So that makes me over 1133MHZ. This is definatley good ram just not quite what I was hoping for. I have only succesfully ran a 3dmark2000 loop so it might not be stable but so far so good.

Man, that DDR memory does suck. I've got a 64 MB Prophet II that's able to run at 238/400. My score with a PIII 700 @ 1050 is about 200 points more than yours. Hard to believe that 40 MHZ on the memory would make that much difference(especially since your FSB is much higher. I should be getting that BX Master MB by the end of the week. I'll let you know how the CAS 2 at 155 FSB ends up working.
Cool I had to bump it down to 160 had a lock in quake3 at 161 but Im still at 1120. I am very happy. Im not sure if any stick could do 222 on this board I am beginning to wonder. Good Luck these new cco chips fly I think my geforce 2 is starting to crap out at 160fsb also. Ill be happy were Im at I think . For now. Ive got my Eye on the 3dprophet pro though. Hope the nv20 comes out soon so they will lower the price a little more.

I would agree that mem is the prob...could also be that your mobo just can't stabilise at those bus speeds, I also agree that Mushkin is the way to go....I have a stick of rev2 pc133 that is stable up to 154fsb @ 2-2-2, and I am currently running cas3 @ 158fsb...which is where I think the mem is topped out, if the price drops any more, on the rev3, then I will have to have some.

Jr,
I got the BX-Master today and I'm able to run the Crucial memory at CAS 2 at 155 FSB. The PIII 700 seems to be running OK at this speed too. I was actually able to run it at 150 FSB with default voltage(1.7V) on the P3B-F. I cranked the voltage up to 1.85V on this new mobo because it seemed to be hanging at the Windows splash screem every now and then. I believe the problem may have been with having the I/O voltage too high. I have moved it down to 3.4V and I believe the problem has gone away.
