okay, this is a long question, and you really need to know something that i don't (not hard i guess =p ) Okay, here goes. I had a A-trend 7300 PPGA board with a 440ZX chipset. I bought a new board for christmas (DFI CA64-SC) I threw in my new board, and it give me hell for 2 days, and i could O'C up to 500 smooth with old baord. Put in the new one, and windows hated it, but overclocking worked. It worked at 450 too. So, i backed up my important Data, and reformatted. I set up windows, a few probs (I.E. the cd was ****ed to hell.) fixed that problem, reformmatted after the setup crash and install w/ out any problems. Now i boot it up. 500 Smooth. i set up my drivers. 500 smooth. I load my video card. restart. i get to my network logon. i hit okay, makes the noise, and CRASH. my quickbar doesnt finish loading, my icons dont load. I load up safe mode. no probs. take out my video drivers. reboot. no prob. Load my original drivers. still crashes. load my newest drivers. still crashes. load my OpenGL drivers (card isnt openGL compat. so i run it as a savage4. Thats the chip of the card) anyways nothing worked. so i decide to try my new bus spped, 95. and what happens? IT BOOTS!!! 400@95 MHz bus. Its not a cooling prob, cause my chip never gets over 27 w/ new heat sink and fan (well, 30 under 24h load time) So, i was wondering: whats going on? I'm gonna get a new video card soon, so i can get rid of my Stealh III s540. Also, what should i get, ATI rage pro (the one with video in/tv out) or Abit Silurio GeForce2 MX? someone gimme a hand here. at 570, i cant do my network games and some 3D apps dont load... HELP!!! it STILL happens if i pull my SBlive! xgamer! it isnt the bus speed!
could it be the AGP 4x? the card and the motherbaord can do it, so i do it. HELP ME!!!!

i know my vid card/motherboard combo doesn't like agp 4x. i always disable it and never had anymore problems locking up and such. your problem seems different than mine was, however. is your vid card agp 4x compatible? if not then it probably is the problem even though i would think it would default down to 2x if it couldn't do it.

and i would go with the mx card for the upgrade in my opinion. just more raw power then any ati card in the same price range.

What CPU are you using to OC? If you are overclocking a Celery @ 95mhz bus then your AGP might be at a REALLY high speed and your Vid card might not like it running that high. Check your AGP bus speed and try going 100mhz FSB...that way your agp is back to 66mhz. =]

That is probably why it booted @ 95 instead of 83mhz, because almost no peripheral
likes 85mhz. 95 is easier on all devices 'cause it's not an odd number
I know what I am trying to say but can't atriculate it.
