I've been looking at the new A64 3000+, but not sure about the real specs. Some sites list it as 2G with 512 cache others at 1.6G and 1G cache. Anyone know which one is correct.

After searching the internet, it appears that there may be two versions. one at 2G and 512 cache and one at 1.8G with 1G cache. I looked at some of the vendors and they have different part numbers from AMD.

AMD has gone insane. Nobody is really sure of anything right now. Why don't you order one and see what you get.

"Why don't you order one and see what you get."
:D Dave  :D

There are many Athlon XP 3000+ versions but there's only one Athlon 64 3000+, and that's the 2.0 GHz, 512 KB cache Newcastle.

Click here for all the versions: http://www.c627627.com/AMD/AthlonXP/

There are two versions right now, the second showing up very recently. Apparently AMD has relesed a 512kb cache version of the A64 3000+, but has not told vendors what the difference is.....and therefore many of these are being sold as the 1MB cache A64 3000+'s. Seems to be a big mess right now.......apparently the 512Kb versions are code named the "Newcastle", go figure .

Tray, AMD never released 3000+ ClawHammer, did they?
There were rumors but the one out right now is the 512 KB Newcastle, not the 1 MB cache ClawHamer which was never released.

Err, I'm pretty sure that they didnt, but I could be wrong.....lol

As far as my knowlegde: no.

So when you say "There are two versions right now" what do you mean?

I mean that many places are selling them as the 3000+ with 1MB cache because they did not know the difference on the code of the chip.

"An Athlon 64 3200+ has this identifying code:
ADA3200AEP5AP
The Newcastle chip has the following code:
ADA3000AEP4AP"

These are actually 3000+'s running 512Kb of cache, however many places are describing them as running at 2Ghz, which would make them a 3200 with less cache. Everyone is all confused about it.

Nobody is really sure about the speed yet, that is why I called it what I did, sorry if I was unclear.

I guess, in essence, the question should be if the Newcastle is a 3000+ despite the operating speed, or if it is a 3200+ with less cache.

With best regards,
Tray

Yes you're right.
pkrew, the deal is like Tray said, the majority of the places are listing Athlon 64 3000+ incorrectly.

If you order it, you will get a 2.0 GHz, 512 KB cache Newcastle Athlon 64 3000+. There are no other 64 3000+s.

There's a 3200+ and a 3400+ 1MB cache ClawHammer but that's it for socket 754 CPUs this year.

Next year, there'll be lots of others: http://www.c627627.com/AMD/AthlonXP/

Thanks everyone. I did see a site on Pricewatch that had one listed as ADA3000AEP5AP. The info said it was an A64 at 1.8G with 1G catch. I looked at one of AMDs documents and it confirmed that this number was indeed a A64 3000+ at 1.8G and with a 1G catch. I'm so confused, lol

No need to be confused friend, you got your answer, there are only three socket 754 CPUs in 2003:

• 2.0 GHz, 512 KB cache Newcastle Athlon 64 3000+.

• 2.0 GHz, 1MB cache ClawHammer Athlon 64 3200+.

• 2.2 GHz, 1MB cache ClawHammer Athlon 64 3400+.

Documents and listings stating otherwise are incorrect or may refer to 2004 CPUs not released yet.
