View Full Version : Help with overclocking P3-700
My cpu is rock stable when overclocked to 833 with 1.65 vcore, I attempted 933 with 1.70 but the computer halts when the cpu tempeature reaches 35 degrees C. What can I do to make it stable?
My motherboard is Asus CUSL2
1.7 may not be enough. Try 1.75 or 1.8V - should not be a problem even with retail fan.
If you are seeing it consistently fail at a specific temperature then you definitely need more cooling. Increasing the Vcore is going to increase the problem if it's temp related. I have 2 systems with PIII-700's but I have Alpha hsf's and lots of case ventilation to keep them under 40c at all times. If you are using the oem hsf and no extra case fans, you will probably need some to get the most out of your cpu. If you try increasing the Vcore, keep a close watch on temperature!!

Aey "YO".
You got your system up at P3 700@ 1Ghz. Im just wondering, what stepping type is your processor and is it with the retail HSF? Not that I dont believe you in any way but want to find out from people on this processor. thnx. : )
I have set the vcore to 1.75 and is running stable at 933 with boot up tempeature of 35C, idle temp of 19C and the max tempeature between 40 - 45C. Is that acceptable? Is there any programs I can use to test the stability of my system?

Poch......I would say your temps are OK but your going to be limited due to your CPU cooling. It appears that your CPU is a "winner" and the only thing it needs is a better heat/fan combo. You can try to up your FSB a little more but I would recommend you don't kick up your voltage any higher, it's going to raise your temps even more, and you don't want them any higher. Is your CPU a Slot 1 or a flip?

My CPU is FC-PGA.
What kind of cooling should I use for my system?

Alpha is probably the best regarded, Global Win, SwiftTech and a few others right behind.
I have a cb0 700@1020 with the Alpha PEP66 on a BF6, and 2x cc0 700s @1002 with PEP66s on a VP6. With the Delta high speed fans they never exceed 35c- even with 2 concurrent Seti sessions running on my dual box.
