Question about CPU voltage

Is the only danger of raising the voltage of a CPU heat?

Or are there other factors that play into damaging a CPU by cranking the voltage too high.

Excessive voltage can kill the cpu directly. You don't want to run beyond the design spec of the device. At voltages below that heat is the biggest problem.
