O.K., I am just about to give it up. Here are my system specs: PIII-733,MSI-6199VA mobo,VIA ApolloPro133A,Voodoo3,Western Digital 20Gig. I have tried upping the FSB in the bios to 140/35mhz(which is the next level available with spread spectrum on), and the system will boot and load Windows98, but as soon as I load a game,BLAMO!,it drops back to windows main icon screen. I find it hard to believe that I can't even achieve 770 with this thing!
I have tried upping the CPU voltage in every increment available up to 1.85 and no luck. One person on this board recommended upping the I/O voltage. What is this?Chipset voltage? I tried that too and no such luck. Is this maybe caused by PCI and AGP buses set to high with the FSB up? My bios does not at least as far as I can see allow me to lower the PCI/AGP speeds.
I tried SoftFSB, but my mobo/ppl were not listed. Do I have any chance whatsoever of getting this to work? Any help would be greatly appreciated and would save me from pulling all of my hair out.Thanx!!!!!!

What memory are you using? You may be running it at the max at 133... Does setting the MB ram speed to hstclk-pci help? That will tell you it's memory related.

Thanx Tim, I set the hostpci-33 and 140/35mhz and it boots and loads windows fine.(It shows dram clock at 100mhz at startup. Again, when I load up a game after about 2 minutes it drops back to windows like if you hit alt-f4. I have 256 of Texas Instruments pc-133. Maybe underclocking the video card would help? I am out of ideas.

I was having a similar problem with
my setup, and discovered the following
about my PC133 ram. (brand unknown)

Runs great with 133fsb at CAS2.

If I want to run with 140 or 150fsb, I have
to set the RAM at CAS3.

A few of the memory benchmarks go down
a bit, but not much. It still beats everything
Sandra compares it to except that 1ghz
Athlon in the memory test.

I am 100% stable at 140fsb.
(Still working on some problems at 150...)

Also, have you tried it with spread spectrum disabled ?
