View Full Version : Is getting the 700e worth the risk over the 667eb I have now?

I know that the e stands for 100mhz fsb and the eb for 133 but what I'm trying to decide is weather or not it's worth the risk to go for the 700 and hope that I can hit at least say 124 fsb minimum but hopefully 933\133fsb
I do wanna gain some performance in the end!

bwahahaha!!!!...u need a video card ...an Ultra or a
GTS2...not a processor...but its ur choice...
stick THAT in ur ear....

I don't have a clue what Yosh is talking about, you have a Greatvideo card. I would rather have the 700 than what you have as guys have good luck with it.

well Mr. Rogers....why do you suggest a processor
upgrade??...do u even know what he wants to accomplish??...a vid card upgrade will definitely bring
up his fps or 3Dmarks...a slightly faster processor
will not get him this....but whatever....u da man

Yea but the 700 will only cost me 60 bucks with trade in so I think I should go for it so I can do a little o\cing right??

If your going to get an EB, get the 800EB.

You may not get to a gig, but 901 or 840mhz aint bad
when you got everthing else running off a 140/150fsb.

Excuse me Mr.senor member....I guess since I came to
overclockers.com I had no idea u were talking about
*gasp* overclocking!!....so tell me Jeff...what kinda performance gain will he have if he goes from a 740MHZ @148FSB to a 900MHZ@133FSB(if he even
gets there)...say in 3DMark...Q3 FPS...etc. well? Im
all for performance/overclocking but I cant see that he'll gain much going this way...for $60 diff, sure why not?...but a video card is where he'll gain the most.
and another thing.. dont bother posting if ur not gonna say anything constructive other than to get another # added to ur posts....whatta loser.

I think the goal here would be more like 1GHz plus at 140+FSB. It's a realistic enough goal for the 700e. Frame rates aren't everything...

Well boys I have the 700 now and well it will do 933 but it needs 1.75 volts but is a little unstable so its at 1.8 volts now and seems ok!
I've tried 1.85 with no luck it won't post any higher but will it maybe after I use it for a while and can I try any higher voltage?
I lapped my orb and the temps are 29c idle and 38\39c under load.My ram obviously isn't a problem as it has seen 150 fsb in the past with the 667 & the pci bus speed is at 33mhz@933 so no pci frequency problems right?
So any idea's ?

btw it's a cbo stepping chip from malaysia if that means anything to ya!

And my frame rates are a little better to boot !
Not like they were bad before anyway so I wanted to get some more cpu power and I have so I'm pretty happy now to be in the o\cing game as the 667 would not do much for me but would still like to get a little more if possible!!

Any idea's for me to try ?

I like the 700e. I've got two of these, one oem, one retail (both cB0 stepping). In each case they run fine at 902 MHz (128 fsb) with generic memory or 933 MHz (133 fsb) with Mushkin cas 2 memory! Though, aside from SETI wu's, you probably wont notice too much difference.

I think Tim says it best. Framerates aren't everything. Many of us find great satisfaction in SETI work unit times. And the difference between those two CPUs will profoundly affect SETI times. Again, sorry for saying you were ignorant. It is just that from your post you sounded like the ignoramus type, the kind that don't know the diff between an "E" and an "EB". Honestly Yosh, I don't care about the number of posts I've made, neither does anyone else. I was trying to get the point accross to Don that it's not worth getting upset about seemingly ignorant posts. Again, I'm sorry.

Any idea's for me to try ?Give it a good burn in for 24 hours and try again. I think you will get it close to 1GHz with some more effort. Good luck.

I have found that burn in for a 2 or 3 week period is often the most productive. For that matter my systems run Seti 24/7 anyway, so they burn in full time.
