Well, I fried my old SMC 7004AWBR router last night, for reasons that are too stupid to describe. Suffice it to say that I won't be buying an SMC anytime soon.
Everyone I know has this router (seriously. it's uncanny), and they've all had great luck with it as far as configuration. It sounds very stable, none of them have had connection drops, etc.
So here are the questions: anyone else have experience with this router? And more specifically, has anyone made this work with an SMC USB wireless adapter? Because I don't want to replace anything if I can avoid it. If there are other routers you would recommend, please let me know!

Well I'm using this router and it hasn't given me any problems. It's been running for 6 months straight, so I can it's really stable.

Yeah, it's definitely looking like the router for me, it sounds very stable. With any luck, I won't have to reconfigure my stepmom's macintosh, since I have no damn idea how to do so.
To clarify: I know that all Wi-Fi certified products are supposed to be intercompatible, and I'm operating on the assumption that the SMC USB wireless...antenna? not sure what term to use here... will work with the Linksys router... but if anyone has specific experience with it, that'd be helpful.

As long as they are Wifi compatable they'll be fine.

If they're both WiFi Certified, than they should be interoperable at the protocol's rated speed.
802.11b 11mbps
802.11a/b 54mbps

Also, to note, did your SMC have any sort of special hardware like accelerators and such, because they will not work with other hardware if they did.

I should add that Linksys also released firmware for WPA.
