View Full Version : How can I test if my CPU is successfully overclocked?
My p3-700 running at 933 with 1.75 vcore has idle tempeature of about 20C. During normal operation it goes up to about 25-35C. But when I run "CPU Stability Test 6.0", the temp reaches 47C in 1.5 hrs and I get a blue screen. Would you consider this as a successfully overclocked CPU?
Poch
ps. I'm using the retail fan, no additional cooling

I would say a big no to that one! You want to make sure that it can run at least 8-12 hours continuosly without blue screening. What exactly do you mean by "normal" operation? If you only play your games or go on the internet for less than 2 hours at a time, then your probably all right. But if you want to be on longer, your going to get pissed when it keeps locking up. Go out and get 3DMark2000 and put the benchmark in a continuous loop and see how long it takes before it locks up. That hits the system pretty hard (for gaming at least) and if it runs for at least 8 hours without blue screening, your cpu should be good. Cool the **** out of it though, those retail fans aren't worth a ****. Good luck!
I would agree with trying a different heatsink and fan on it, Something of the alpha variety, although I have had good luck with the golden orbs though it seems not many like them. Be sure to use some thermal grease, and also if all else fails bump up that vcore a little bit. That should all help in creating a successful overclocking situation.
