Korndog asked that I make a poll asking you all how much you spent on your watercooling set up. Keep in mind everything you bought must be in use. If you want you can list your set up as well.

So far probably around 250ish, probalby gonna soar to around 400 soon since I want to upgrade.

Didn't buy the best components at first, but I've learned a lot and its been fun.

Hopefully I can make some of my losses back by selling my old stuff...

My camera's USB cable broke since the first couple chromings... the only pics I have are of the chiller shroud (which would be thread crappage)... so... I'll just link it...

Chiller Pic1 (http://www.euphoriaguild.com/stuff/shroud-beta0.jpg)

And... naturally, there will be a post on it when my new cable comes from whatever sweatshop HP employs to make their shoddy products.

Not included:

Going against advice and common sense and getting 1/2" ID 5/8" OD Vinyl at home depot ~$5-10
9/16" bit at lowes ~$15

Ok, what im actually using would be;

Materials for waterblocks $10
Hacked up fish tank cleaner for tubing(good stuff) $0
Pump i found in basement $0
Two replacement pumpshafts for it(lol  ) $34
Heatercore robbed from chevy truck $0
Barbs for heatercore $1.50
120mm clean fan $20

So thats $75.50 ...only so high cuz of pump shafts and that fan cost alot more then it shoulda. Factor in tools and all the other stuff iv bought its probably over 200

total $280

This doesn't include all the things I needed to make it, like Wiss Snips, a good compass, a scratch awl, JB Weld, drill bits, etc. But I use these for all kinds of other things so I don't count them as a specific cost.

feyd83
12-17-03, 09:19 PM
I stopped counting exactly how much I spent, but I ended up buying a whole bunch of extras I didn't need, or now know of better. I'm gonna guess my first setup easily cost around 1K :/

My Advice:
If you're not sure whether you need it, dont' buy it until you do.

Be sure to add in tool prices if you try to do some DYI, they're a killer.

Don't recall all the details and prices, but I can ballpark a figure:
$1000 or so.

This includes: everything for 4 complete, running water cooled systems (currently in use); 2 dead water pumps; parts tested and not in use, a bunch of different fans (some of which are dead); various different types of tubing (much of which has been thrown out); and a few costly mistakes thanks to experiments:
Dead mobo, cpu, power supply.

H2O cooling CAN be done effectively for very little money or you can go right over the top and spend a huge amount.- often for little more performance.

$18 for a via aqua 1300

about $7.50 for some screws and springs for a holddown
free heatercore out of my dad's truck (it's got a tiny leak in it)

free plastic container reservoir

$33.50

Not too bad considering it keeps my xp 1700 at 2 ghz and 2.175 vcore at 35c load! I don't really have a maze 2, because i unsoldered the top and drilled my own water block out of the cold plate that came with it. It looks pretty crappy, but performs very well.
