Im running Win98 on a Pentium 3 MMX 550mhz. I have IE 6 installed. Problem is that on large webpages (ie lots of loading/graphics etc) the web scrolling and click response is VERY slow. I drag the sidebar down or I click on a link and it reacts only after a coupla seconds (sometimes longer). When I use internet mail, and reply or compose a new mail, the words that I type only appear like a few seconds after I typed them!...What could be the problem?

Thanks is advance...

If you are on a DIAL UP connection it happens alot, because all of that stuff has to be downloaded then when you click on it that has to be sent to the website you are on.

maybe your running out of ram, so it has to dump stuff from memory as your going along, that could make it slow down.

I am running on a 384k DSL line... so I guess that should not have been the problem.
My P3 is abt 448MBs of RAM so that should not have been the problem too!....
Could it be that my Harddrive is slowing down processing all that info?

how long has it been this you formated, i had a win98 computer that hadn't been formated in over a year and a half or longer and it would be slow at opening programs and webpages(using IE6), but it didn't have the slow downs when typing.

A few good things to do is, clear your temp. internet files then set the temp. internet file setting to around 10MB, dont let windows set this...also set it to never check for newier versions of webpages (don't do this if you are running a dial up)...this should help out your IE slowdown....

I hadn't formatted the drive for about a year n half. Im thinking of reformatting the drive to see if it solves the problem. I've set the IE settings on low.

Anyways thanks for the advise. My only choice now is to reformat that drive and reinstall everything.
