Here is my basic system loadout:
800 PIII PC 100 running on BX-133 RAID
2 UDMA Maxtor 7200 40 gigs rinning in RAID
Generic case, average cooling, 250W
256 megs PC 133
Voodoo Banshee 16 meg
-64 Meg Prophet II GTS Pro in the mail
Sound Blaster Live Platinum
-LiveDrive 5 1/4" Bay Audio Panel
Generic CD-ROM
Ricoh 6x ReWriter
Generic 12x DVD
Aopen 56k modem
All running in a generic case with average cooling. I dont think it is an issue with heat, but my computer simply wont overclock one bit. I have no problems whatsoever running at 800 PC 100, but the reason I bought all my other equipment at 133 was because I was expecting to jump it up to 133 and at the same time give it some more horsepower. When I do this, even slightly, the computer completely fails to turn on (It physically turns on but there is no signal to the monitor). The only way I can get it back is by resetting the BIOS (The BX-133 uses a bios software overclock). There are two things that I pray are what hold it up from being overlcocked: My video card (a 16 meg banshee, soon to be a very good one) which, if it is a problem, will be out of the way very soon. And my power supply, 250 watts. This is probably the problem, but I am not sure and dont want to buy a new one until someone confirms this. I know others who have overclocked thier PIII just fine on a 250 watt (sometimed two or three hundred mhz) power supply, but I might be because of all my peripherals that I need more. In any case, until I can get some diagnosis, or maybe a way to solve the problem without me having to buy a new power supply, I will wait until my vid card arrives and see what happens. Please let me know if there is anything I can do, whether purchase a new power supply or not.
cheers,
saul
