Ok, my friend has roughly $100 to burn on a video card. What is, in your opinion, the best card out there for that price?

I don't particularly trust the items on ebay. I'm looking to either go some where and buy the card or order it on-line.

You can get a fx5600 for around $100 on many different sites. Check around for the best price. Its dx9 and will play the newer games that are comeing out.

not as well as a 9600. also itll get owned by a ti4200 without aa/af and especially in dx8. If ebay is out for you, post a wanted in the classifieds here or check the video for sale

if 100 is the absolute max, then get a 4200, or a radeon 8500. if he can splurge a little more, then get a 9600 pro.

The punk went to best buy and picked up an ATI 9600SE for $100. So that's that. Still better then the onboard video he's getting. (MSI K7N2G-L [NForce2 Chipset]).

I think he mostly wanted the free hl2 it came with, but hes not gonna be too happy being forced to run 640x480, medium details and no aa/af due to the 64 bit ram. a fx5200 woulda owned that. the 9600se is even slower than a geforce4 mx440 :(
