i was experiencing some problems with w2k, and decided to format the drive. I turned off power, unplugged the other 2 drives, and booted into dos (win95 boot disk).
Heres the problem
I cant find the hdd. Bios detects it, but i dont know what letter it is, it was C:, i tried c,d,e,f,g,h,i all say invalid drive.
I tried running Powermax (its a maxtor drive) and it just sists there saying "detecting drives..."
I know the drive works, because i can boot into windows safe mod from it, if i take the floppy out.

Please help. How do i find it, and format it.

If you are planning to re-install w2k, why not boot the 2k cd and do the format thru the install. Most likely your c: drive is NTFS format and dos will not see or recognize it. Dos will only see FAT formatted drives.

If your reinstalling, just boot from the cd. Id bet every thing will be fine. You can format the drive again while you have booted from the CD.

as far as I knew...win 95 was fat 16 and can not read fat 32 partitions...have you tried a win98 boot disk to see if it will see the HD...also, make sure you didnt change the fat32 to a fat 16 when you installed the 95 disk...if it asked at the begining to change to partition around and you answered yes...cant remember the exact question it ask since its been forever and a day since I have ran 95...then this could be the reason why nothing is detecting it now...most NT OS's can not read fat 16 partitons and powermax wont beable to read it either...
