View Full Version : Video Problems While OC'd
Recently got a p3 700, working on overclocking it. It will run stable at 805 mhrz with default voltage everything except mechwarrior 3, which gives me the blue screen of death 3 seconds into the game. Is this because my agp slot can't handle the faster bus speed?

Can you provide more details on your setup? Your AGP is at 57.5MHz right now and that "shouldn't" be a problem.
PIII - 700 SL3xx (cB0 stepping) w/gorb
Asus CUSL2-C
256 mb Micron pc133 SDRAM
Diamond Viper V770 Ultra
SBlive Value
Cnet 10/100 ethernet card

It definately isn't the AGB slot itself. I have a 700e (cB0) @ 854 (it won't cold boot at 933-darn it!) and no video problems. That puts the AGP at 61MHz. I don't run Mechwarrior, but I've tested it with 3DMark 2000 at 1024x768 16 color with no problem.
At what settings is your Diamond Viper running Mechwarrior? Can you tell me if it's 32 bit color or 16 bit color and what resolution? Methinks that's your problem.

Now if I could spell...the B and P are nowhere near each other on the keyboard...AGB is really AGP!
Well we'll let the error slip this time, I guess.
But anyway, I'm not sure if its 32 or 16, but I'd bet its 32. At default clocking of the processor, the game runs fine, but it just doesnt want to run at the higher speeds, which is really starting to **** me off. Granted MW3 isn't one of my favorite games (long live cs!), it still aggravates me that I can't run it, and who knows what other games I can't run, you know?
BTW, what voltage are you running it at? I want to know a safe voltage to run after the burn in stage, and I've never really messed with the voltage before.
Thanks,
Jamezz

I understand your frustration on running the game. I have the CPU voltage set at 1.75. Higher voltages don't make a difference. The reason I can't cold boot at 933 is that the CPU boots at default voltage and switches to the voltage set in BIOS after POST. This chip can't POST any higher than 903 (7x129 using the 100MHz FSB) or 933 (7x133 using the 133MHz FSB). All can be done at 1.75. Have you tried 133/133/33 on your board?
Yea I've been tempted to try that, but haven't yet. I'm still worried about damaging the processor, haven't had it running but for about 8 hours. But I'm still a newby at all of this, so I dunno.

You won't hurt your processor. If it won't work at 133/133/33, just power off and on again and the CUSL2-C will boot up at default and bring you to the settings screen in BIOS. If you can get 133/133/33, make sure that you can cold boot at that setting and see if Mechwarrior works.
If it boots at 133/133/33 but Windoze locks up, just adjust your voltage up until Windoze is stable.
I'm leaving in a few minutes to go see Castaway but please post your results. I'm interested to see if it works for you.
Tried 133/133/33 and it wouldn't even post. Probably because I left the voltage at default (1.65), but i dunno. Castaway was a good movie, good choice.

Yep...enjoyed the movie. Did you try upping the voltage before booting at 133/133/33? The PIII chips are safe up to 1.85v (IMHO - although I know others will run it at a higher voltage).

Just installed a P3 700 cBO stepping last week myself. Running right now @ 980. When I put it in I set the voltage to 1.70 and bus to 133 on the slotket (P3V4X). It booted without any problems. Had to raise it to 1.75v to get stable. Ran Prime95 through two torture tests and changed the voltage to 1.80 @ 140 bus. Still trying to burn it in using Prime95 before I try for 144 bus and 1008Mhz. The specs say the P3 can handle up to 2.1v but would not suggest anything above 1.95v and be sure to check your temps. Specs give 75C maximum but you want to try and keep it below 45C under heavy load if possible. You may also want to try running +3.5v or +3.6v for your video card also.
