View Full Version : p3 850 @ 986
hey everyone, this is my first post......on this forum:)
for awhile ive been wondering if my air cooled overclock was normal for my kinda setup..
i have a socket 370 p3 850 (100mhz fsb) with a hedgehog-delta combo, and i run 13-17c idle, 17-20c load..as low as 8c in a cold room:)
(i just got my 430watt enermax psu and 72w peltier, but i havnt set it up yet)
ANYWAY
im not a newbie, or an expert in overclocking, but i know that a lot of people get at least 200MHz o/c's out of their p3's:P
I JUST WANT 1ghz (more if possible, but mainly just 1ghz)
thanks
Unless you live in a meat locker I have a little trouble with those temps...8c is only 46f 20c is only 68f... The heatsink can't be less than ambient temp, unless you've found a way around the laws of thermodynamics. (or are using active cooling)

ive had a few people say that, "its impossible to have that low of temps with air cooling", you guys must have hot rooms or something, im an alaskan (dont live there anymore though), i like cold rooms.
the temps i told you i run at, are only what asus probe 2 gives me. BUT ive checked my bios and i honestly do run low temps, my bios told me i idled at 16c, rather than 14 :)
temperatures is not what i posted in this forum for, i wanted to ask why im not getting to a 1000mhz when i have an 850mhz processor.
btw i have an asus cuv4x
i THINK thats my problem, cause a friend of mine with an abit be6-2 got his 850 to 1.1 ghz
:\

You should tell your buddy he's very lucky to get that far out of a 850. I've been running a 850 on be6-II and the most can hit is 1005. Tried pelter's with dry ice in a cooler to get hot side of pelter to 15 'c using the thermal diode on board and cold side to -20'c and to know avail max 1005. recently killed that board and went back to a Asus p3v4x and get the same OC but slow as heck.
As far as the temps your posting I have to agree I think there off, alot. Using a all copper homemade water block get full load temps at 28'c and my room temps are 22'c.
You might find that you have to really pump the voltage up to get the 1 ghz

I can see why you want to hit the gig, but there are other aspects to overclocking, than just temps... From the CPU-database you can see that the avg. overclocked P3-850 reaches the gig, but that also means that a lot of them do not go this high...
What other system specs to you have? (RAM, HD, PCI-cards, video card etc.?) And how far do you go with the core voltage? It could be a NIC that can't handle high FSB's... or maybe your RAM? (that can't handle high FSB's, or maybe it's set to CAS222, but can only handle cas333?)

had a question about all this im running a p3 850 (100mhz fpb) chip at 1002 mhz on a cusl 2-c mother board .. well the cooling is telling me about 20 degrees differance in the bios than the asus prob does ( wich do I believe ) also im wondering about the ocasional blue screen im getting on a fresh install of win2k .. is this oc related .. I got my V core at 1.85 and just selected the chip speed of 1002 ??? any sugestions ..

my other specs dont matter that much, my NIC used to not be able to handle 116 fsb, so i got an intel NIC right now, and it hasnt pooped out on me yet:)
i also JUST got a 72w peltier installed, and my 430w psu, so i MIGHT hig 1GHz in a few minutes :)
oh and the guy im talking about, who hit 1.1ghz with his be6-2, his name is digitaljesus, hes the one with the highest score on madonion.com with 3dmark2000
he'll be posting his 2ghz p4 scores soon, that'll be something to drool over :)
i know its not my ram, cause when i overclock i take out the ****ty cas3 512mb of ram i have..and keep the mushkin cas2 in, i dont set it to cas2 however..and all the ram is pc133..so i dont think its the ram:\
video card, hell no! hehe, its a 3d prophet 2 gts 64mb :)
hard drives..no:P, two 20.5 gig WD 7200 ata 100 drives in a raid 0 with an abit hot rod 100 pro pci raid controller
the other HD is an ata 66 7200 maxtor 40 gig on the onboard controller, i doubt its the hard drives though, ive never heard of them interfearing with overclocks.
the voltage base runs 1.65, and when i last tried 1ghz, i set it to 1.75, i guess i can go higher now that i got the peltier to rely on, so really, we'll see what turns out tonight
oh and how do you get this forum to e-mail you when you have a reply?
I have a PIII 850 (slot 1) on the Abit BE6-II (rev 1.2) motherboard. I haven't had that good overclocking with it. I also have 384 megs (3 128's) of Crucial PC133 (cas 2) ram running it at 2,2,2 in the BIOS. I am now running it at 952 (112) with no problems at all. I tried 118 fsb (at both 2,2,2, and 3,3,3) to hit the gig mark but no go. It will post but when loading Windows, it gives me a "scanregw" error. So it looks like 943 for me.
