What is the fastest processor that the LX chipset can handle? I want to know if I can use a Celeron 500 in my old LX mobo.
That's up to the bios more than the chipset (for the most part...) What MB do you have?
The Asus LX board I had a couple years ago only had bus settings of 66, 75, and 83 if I remember right. I don't think any of the LX chipsets used 100 MHz bus speed (?). If that's true, then the LX mobos are not a good overclocking board at all. Like was said, the BIOS ultimately controls which chips will work, but generally you should be able to use most P-II or Celeron I processors. I had a P-II 233 running at 75 on a LX board for over a year.

I have an Intel 440LX motherboard. I don't want to overclock, I just want the fastest Celeron possible in it without overclocking.
Oh, in that case, the fastest Celeron that will fit would be the 533 PPGA (not the newer 533A coppermine flip chip). It might be possible to use the faster socket 370 Celeron II chips with a slocket adapter, if your BIOS is updated and will support them. Maybe???

Can anyone else verify that??? The official word from Intel is a celeron 433, for the intel 440LX mobo. I do have a slocket converter, btw.
In order to use the newer celeron IIs not only will your bios have to support it, but the VRM on your board will also have to be capble of supplying the correct Vcore. The celeron IIs run at a different voltage as the older celerons.
This could be a problem since most 440LX motherboards were made long before celeron IIs.
