Basically I thought my motherboard didn’t have the 4 mounting holes. I didn’t realize that they were located so close the socket and the huge ax-7 with 92mm tornado strapped to it kind of blocked my vision. Anyway, I ordered the RBX with socket hold down thinking that I would need the hold down to mount my block. I have recently found out that the 8k3a+ does have the 4 mounting holes, thus leading to my question. Should I use the Socket Hold down I ordered or go with the hole mounting system... I really don’t think ill have any problems with weight as the socket has been holding the ax7 with tornado for about a year... I RBX kit will come with the hardware needed to mount with the holes anyway… What would do?

Well to use the hold down over the holes would be a bad idea imo. While the hold down works well for what it does it leave alot of chance to moving, I used one for a while but switched myself. I would say use the holes, you will have to buy the mounting hardware but its only a couple bucks anyway.

If the hold down works like the one on the maze3 I had it screws into the w/b base where normal mounting screws would slide through. If so then those four holes have to be drilled out in order to use the four holes. I did that on my maze3 and it worked fine.

Also if you haven't used it yet or anything give DD a call, they may let you trade it for another one. They are pretty good people there so its worth a shot. Tell them your situation and see where it goes.

If i drilled the holes in the block do you think i could use the hardware from the hold down kit to mount the block to the holes? I dont really wanna try to return it, the 7 dollar diffrence isnt really worth the wait time to me.

Ok, im gonna answer my own question just incase anyone needs to reference this in the future.

I decided to ditch the socket hold down and use the holes. I removed the studs, springs, washers nuts and everything else from the socket hold down. I then drilled out the holes in the block top so they would fit over the studs. All i needed to add was 8 bolts. This allowed me to use the hardware from the hold down to mount with the holes, its working great.
