So the yellow wire that comes off the fan, not the power would be hooked up to the controller for fan speed?

When I hooked up the yellw wire to the motherboard it would not boot.
I wounder why?
 
The yellow wire doesn't power the fan, it's just to monitor the RPMs. You still have to hook the other cable up to a power source.

The power suply plugs I know.

But what I was saying , when I pluged the wire to the mother board, were the stock wires went the system would not boot.
Removed the wire from the mother board (yellow one that is for fan speed) system booted fine
