View Full Version : I need help overclocking my p2 400
ok... i posted earlier but the post didnt show. anyway... i have a p2 400mhz with 64mb pc100 sdram and 100mhz FSB. the mobo is a sis600. @400mhz it runs at 132.8F / 2.05V. when i bump the multiplier up to 4.5x100 it will no longer boot. is there something i am not doing, or something else i have to do to get this system OCed? Is it possible that this sis600 mobo wont let me OC this thing? I am pretty new to this so any help will be greatly appreciated.
On an Intel chip, the multiplier is locked, so changing it is not an option. Overclocking is achieved by increasing the FSB settings. With PC100 ram you will be limited- how much is tough to say- some will work higher, but not all.

SiS chipsets are low-end. Intel i440BX or VIA Apollo 133 would be your best bet for overclocking the thing. Recommend you ditch your existing board for something a bit more tweakable from Abit, Asus, or Soyo (maybe). E-bay has auctions for good, used BX boards every day.
You would have to bus overclock, of course, since your multi is locked, so your peripherals would have to handle life above 100 FSB.
thanks everyone for replying. i think i will just retire this system and give it to a needy family member or something. i guess i am going to just build a new system based on a KT7A or i850. maybe ill just build a p4 1.4ghz / 400fsb machine and see how far i can push it. i dont know... i havnt really decided. if you have any suggestions feel free to let me know. thanks again for your help guys...
