Just a curiosity question maybe someone can help me with. I have a retail PIII-800E running with PC-100 memory and a 100Mhz FSB on an Abit BE6-II ver 2 mobo. Is it possible to just run the PC at a 133FSB? Other than replacing the memory with PC133 will this work? Will this damage the CPU in any way? Is there any advantage to doing this?

Any insight would be much appreciated.

Thank you.

U can run an 800E at 133FSB and that wouldnt damage the chip in anyway at all. Your problem getting to 133FSB will be limited by your 100Mhz memory. Not forgetting of course that your chip might be hard to o/c to that speed anyway (1064Mhz). Your video card might have problems as well the increase in bus speed. I have a BX133Raid and have got my 800E to 967Mhz with the standard intel heatsink and fan @44 degrees C. No problems encountered as yet. (Using PC100 ram).

Thanks so much for your insight.

What settings do you use to get your CPU to 967? Could I just set the BIOS to 133x6 instead of 100x8 if I upgrade the RAM? I have a Voodoo 5500, so I hope it would handle it.

My objective is not to fry anything, but just tweak out more speed. Is there anything else I should look at or be concerned with in regards to o/c?

Thanks again

Hey ledduck8,

All Pentium processors are multiplier locked except for few of them(older pentiums). so you can't change it to 6x100. You got a nice mobo there but you might wanna get some better RAM for your mobo. Like mine, it's damn picky and sensitive with the RAMs when overclocking. Some PC100 RAMs can handle as high as 160mhz FSB!!! @ 3.3.3.

Mushkin PC150 ram made my mobo much happier :P If your RAM is friendly with yur mobo, than try OC'ing. 8x 133 might be little hard to reach but still can be possible with your PC100 RAM, and you got some good cooling.. aight?
