I saw this number of for an AMD 2500, N82E16819103378 at website that sells chips.

does this mean it was made in 2003, as shown w/the 03, and week 37, and thus it would be an unlocked Barton2500?

Second, what is meant by stepping? I have seen on other boards people refer to Y stepping w/their AMD chips...are there different types of stepping..and what does it all mean bascially..and if there are different types of steppign for different CPU's made my AMD..how can I tell what type of stepping a chip has?

ThanksI\

The old 2500+ should be all unlocked, the new ones are most likely to be locked. :(

Here's a pretty good thread about AMD stepping.
