What would be considered to be the best PIII slot 1 heat sink and fan? Someone asked this question at MO/Gamers HQ and most said the Apha P3125, would most here agree?

If not give me your opinion as Im in the process of shopping for a heatsink and fan combo. Also tell me if I'll run into problems like the heatsink/fan will take up a ram slot because of the size. Thanks

Maybe i can help you on that one, Alpha is the best i gained 15 to 20 degrees F with the P3125 and artic silver But i had a Tekram mobo and it did obstruct one DIMM, went to the P3V4X with 4 DIMM's and none were obstructed i was dissapointed in the Asus board so i sent it back in exchange for the BE6- V2 , I havent recieved it yet so i cannot say on that board, if you want to stay in touch the board will be here friday and ill let you know!

An Alpha P3125 will take up your first dimm slot with your particular board, however if that doesn't bother you GO FOR IT......I love mine!!!

Ok thanks then a alpha p3125 it is. Anyone find a better setup for the slot 1 besides peltier or water colling?

Ditto, Alpha. Dropped 10 degrees Celcius on my Plll 500 Katmai under full load. Was hitting 50C.

I am not knocking Alpha's they are great coolers. For a lot less$$$ you can get a Global Win VOS-32 which performs nearly identically. I have one on a P3 600@841 running SETI 24/7 my CPU temp never goes over 36c and is usually even lower

I've actually heard from a fair few customers who have both VOS32's and the smaller GW VNS04's that the VNS04's give near identical temps to the big momma VOS's!! Pretty impressive little coolers they are, won't lose you any DIMM slots either. And: they're cheap. I reckon an Alpha would of course beat one though :)

I have the Dual Overkill from www.3dcool.com
It doesn't block any DIMM slots on my SOYO 6BA+100 and it comes with a mobo 3-pin connector so you can monitor the speed of the two fans. It keeps my PIII 750E @ 945mz 70F when idle. CPU temp never goes above 102F, even when looping Unreal Tournament or Final Reality. They sell for $27, so they are a little cheaper than the Alpha's. Granted, the Alpha's are probably the best, but the Dual Overkill is in my opinion a very good heatsink/fan.

hi
My mobo before I got the cusl2-c was a abit be6-2 and it was rigged with the alpha p3125 and a peltier, it came with the Y tech fans and was the best i have seen for a slot 1 Pentium. About losing one dimm the same was told to me but when it came i checked it and the is a little thin piece off the cover that you can cut of very easy and don't lose any dimm It's a tight fit but it works!!!
