Guys,
I have a PIII 700 that was running @ 933 the temp was being reported as 71deg C all the time, so I changed my Mobo. Now I'm using an MSI MS-6309
I have 256 Mg of Crucial 133 Ram and Geforce 2MX Agp Graphics.
Now my core temp is reported at 32 after running SETI for 9 hours. :-) Not too bad considering i'm just running a gorb and a couple of case fans...
Here is the problem.
If I run my system @ 138 fsb (1Ghz) sometimes it runs fine, sometimes when I start the system the post reports a PIII 298mhz !!!! (temps are around 34 @ full load)
I am also experiencing some strange memory errors... and a sucky 3d mark 200 score of 4985...
any Ideas how to cure my problem ? or Improve my performance ???
hehe, quit bragging on that sysmark score... i only have a pIII 550e @ 735mhz and my highest score to date was 4675....... ;CP
Sounds like a bios issue to me- do you have the latest?

Floyd > :-)
ok.. maybe my score isnot so bad... but I see ppl posting scores in the 6K range with my graphics and chip speed.....
Tim > I have the latest bios version.
V3.2 do you have any more ideas ? I'd like the magical 1Ghz... but I can settle for 933 if I have to. :-)
well i have 4600 with a celeron 633@950 !!!
what about your videocard,......
and it look like your system ist a bit unstable,.....raise the voltage some more,......
Flo
A PIII700 runs 966 at 138FSB - If it says 1GHz something is wrongly calculated in the bios.
Yo
P.s.: 1GHz is 143FSB

I know that. I worked it out myself.
yet if I run my fsb @ 138 my system posts @ 1000 mhz. yet from within windows using cpuidle it calculates my system as a PIII 966
but it still doesn't solve my problem. anyone else with a MSI MS6309 notice that ?

I read the first few posts and was like "Hey! A fileserver thread! :D ," and then steadily grew more confused as I kept reading.
You're talking ancient tech by today's standards (how did you even find this thread?), and most of the people who originally posted in this one either moved on or built newer systems since ... uh.. 2001.
I'm really not sure how much help we could be about a specific PIII board, but here's the user manual:
http://www.fujitsu-siemens.co.uk/rl/servicesupport/techsupport/Boards/Motherboards/MicroStar/MS6309/ms6309.htm
It'll likely have some measure of explanation into how things are done. Also, read some of the overclocking stickies and look at the stickied threads in the Cooling subforum for more information on how to get a bit of an OC out of the board if possible. However, keep in mind that even a slightly-more modern system will have significantly more power and responsiveness compared to a PIII.

Lol, this is great. Now you know the search feature is functioning properly.
Memories. I still remember when I had to run Doom in DOS because my 66mhz 486DX2 and 8mb of RAM just wasn't cuttin' it in Win95. Then a month later my cousin got a DX4. DOH!!

exactly...I did a search..Like I said, I'm a newbie. Never overclocked before. If I'm gonna fry something, I would rather it be ancient.

booone, you may try starting your own thread, a brand new one where you can describe your system specs and ask for advice. Digging up old threads like this one usually makes us all laugh a little (not at you, but because the thread is so OLD!).
Also, welcome to the forums. :) :welcome:

Well, no need for new thread. Successful overclock @964 from my original 733. I'm pleased. Thanks..

Just keep an eye on your cooling. Another fan/more powerful fan or so couldn't hurt.

That's about what my p3 733 would (and still) does. 1ghz was always hard to crack with these CPU's.
Congrats on the OC. Hope we didn't scare you off by lamenting the old thread. Pop in anytime you want/need, and don't hesitate to create a thread in the future. :)

Thanks guys. I'm running a little warmer, but I found a hurricane to put on it with bigger heat sync. Running faster and stable. Now for the big stuff.
