Whew- what a loaded question! I'm not sure I want to say anything without a fire suit.

I have no experience with the AMD stuff, but I read a lot. From what I have seen, the Duron is the better processor. It performs on par with the PIII, and in some cases even better. Since the multipliers can be adjusted they are a natural for overclocking.

With the exception of the heat problems that accompany the AMD chips, they are probably the better choice in many cases.

For building a system from scratch a Duron or Tbird would be my choice. For an inexpensive upgrade of an existing system, the Celeron offers the most bang for the buck.
