I just have a quick question about windows 95. Someone brought over their P2 (333mhz) for me to fix because it was running extremely slow, so I disabled a bunch of programs at startup, and uninstalled lots of software. The problem is it won't boot, because it complains about some device, or file missing (it's not important right now).

My question is, can I reinstall windows 95 while preserving all data (forget programs), or will 95 wipe everything out? I'm not really familliar with it.

Thanks

first off, if it won't boot because it's missing a device or file, I think it is important, wouldn't you?

IIRC win95 will let you install over a previous installation, but it won't let you preserver the start menu construction or the registry entries.

Will it boot in Safe Mode?

I'm pretty sure that it will let you re-install without formatting as well. Haven't ever done it, but I think I saw the option when I was setting up a box with Win95 earlier this month....
