greetings all,
i want to overclock the 2 computers at my house. One is a PIII 533 EB on a Soyo-6VBA133. The other is a PIII 600EB on a Soyo-6VCA. Should I stick with these mobos for OCing or would I gain more performance/speed using different mobos? Can anyone walk me through the process for my specific CPU/mobo setups? Please email advice to broliver76@hotmail.com THANKS ALL!
Well, I have a Celeron 2 600 @ 900Mhz on a Soyo VBA-133 and I have no problems, keep in mind though that the VBA-133 uses VIA's original apollo 133 chipset (not the 133A) so the memory performance on the VBA-133 will suck no matter what, the only advice I can give on the memory is to get 133 Ram and run it as fast as you can (33Mhz faster than FSB), also update the bios and grab H Oda's WP Credit (It works). As for the VCA, It uses the Apollo 133A and should give you better overall performance. Also with Soyo boards, you're limited with the voltage settings in the bios, but that shouldn't be too much of a problem, you can also set the voltage on the sloket (have a good sloket btw) since both are slot 1 mobos. I can't really give you much more info on the VCA, as I don't have one, but these boards overclock as well as any other to me. If you got the money, and performance is you're thing, you might do better with an 815 chipset-mobo, also the 815 can get you up to 150Mhz FSB, but I doubt you'll be able to overclock that far unless you have a 133Mhz chip. Conclusion: I'm a Celey owner, and to me that's a lot of cash to front for a littel gain, I think you'd be better off savin the money now for some athlon luvin' in the future (A-850 $101 @ PWatch), but if bang for you're buck now is you're thing, and you got the money to burn, I'm sure there is a board out there that will give you better numbers, you have to decide is it worth the cash?
