I bought an Intel PIII 750 with an Abit BX-133 mb a couple of months ago. When running SiSoft Sandra the CPU Model Information reads: P6C (Coppermine) Pentium III E(B) 500-1.13G 1.6-1.7v. Also while attempting to overclock the CPU for the first time my system would not boot. My mb manual says to hold down the Insert key when you turn on the pc and the cpu will revert to its default. I do that and during the bootup the Main Processor line reads: Pentium III 500E Mhz. Is all of this telling me that I was sold a PIII 500E as a 750?

Sure does sound that way. There is a utility available from Intel to determine the exact processor you have. Check their website and you should be able to find it.

or when you pressed the *return* key it may have put the computer to *safety minimum defualt.* or you could look at the processor without the heatsink and fan on it and itel say what it is on the flipchip.

I dunno... Intel Coppermines = multiplier locked and no feasable way around it, so if it's a 750 now, I think it was always a 750 :)

I don't think so....when you booted up safely...it booted with a 7.5 x66mhz=500 boot up....not the full 100mhz fsb...

That is exactly what happened it booted at 66mhz fsb to be safe.

Nope my 800eb shows the same thing that its a 500. I know a guy with a 1g that shows up as a 500. Must be Sandra.

It could be the speed limits of the processor . may be 500 mhz to 1.13 ghz ?

Well sometimes my 650E posts as a PIII 433.

1) just up the FSB to 100MHz.
2) take the heatsink off and see what the sticker says on the CPU
3) 500-1.13GHz is the speed range for coppermine CPU's.

Get The CPUID Util from Intel. That'll tell you for sure if the CPU is Overclocked, without having to demolish it!

Sandra will say 500-1.13Ghz as these are the limits of the CuMine P///s (You don't get many 1.13Ghz's to the pound)

You may not be able to hit 750 exactly, but if I run my 800 at 880mhz, it show up in the BIOS as an 850. Samething for 920/900.

just look at the processor, it should say on.Thats why if im buying second hand p3, i buy fcpga, where you can see for yourself what it is.With a secc, they can change the cartridges.Next on my vh6 my old p3 700e used to default to 466 or something. You just have to set it up right in bios.Next there really are no 500 (old katmai core) that will run that high without some serious cooling. My oppinion is, if it runs at 750 at default vcore then you have a 750.If youve been ripped off, go and beat the crap outta da guy.
