View Full Version : Please help me with my P3 667 Mhz Coppermine!!!
Hey all OC dudes =)
I got a Pentium 3 667 Mhz Coppermine (133 FSB), and a Asus P3V4X Motherboard, right now im running stock speed, but I would really like to overclock the beast, I tried a little bit, but 700 Mhz was the highest if I wanted it to stay stable, I have not tried to make adjustments to the Vcore or Voltage, so I was hoping somebody with the same equipment could give me some great tips please

However, I do have some experience with 133 FSB cpus. First off, before you attempt to o.c. your machine you should make sure you have the proper cooling. Temperature is the enemy here. Do some research on your particular setup by comparing others like it that have been successfully o.c. That way you'll be less likely to throw away money thru costly errors and wrong purchases. Also, be aware that the 133 FSB CPU's are very limited as far as their o.c. abilities due to PCI and AGP devices not being to happy being pushed much beyond the 33 mhz and 66mhz bus speeds. The main limitation is the divisors offered in the BIOS to keep the PCI bus near or at 33mhz and the AGP bus at or near 66mhz. As you bump up the FSB higher and higher you also increase the demand for more electricity to be able to meet the new demands asked of the system. Higher Voltages mean an increase in current. And more current means more heat cause by the increase in resistance to the increase in current. I run a 600eb @675 w/FSB @150 and Vcore of 1.70 to remain stable. And all I get out of it is a 75 mhz gain in cpu speed. Although you get better performance thru increased bus speeds compared to increased CPU speeds. The performance gain is almost not noticable. There are lots of links to articles and information pages on O.C.coms home page that can help you make the right choices and to make informed decisions needed before you embark on your o.c. journey.
Hey, I also have a p3 667 with an asus p3v4x mb, and 576mb pc 133 ram. Right now it is running 740mhz @ 1.65v core. I have been able to get it to 750 but then reverts back to default on restart. Now you really should be able to change the vcore in the bios or by the jumpers. Get some better cooling, do some burn-in. and try, go slow. have fun.

If your looking for good performance try the celeron 667. I run the fsb @ 100mhz x 10.0 . Runs stable. Best $130 i ever spent
