I have now for about 3 weeks love this program. Easy to use and easy to redo names so on and the sound is great.

Nope don't use it. I still buy my music from the store. Its just more feasible for me to walk in and buy what a want and I will have a copy that has better encoding than anything I can download. But the arguements that ensnare my previous comments will prolly spark a debate but oh well.

I use and love it. There is only one thing about it that really irritates me though. I had downloaded about 25 songs. My computer starting messing up a lot so I had to reformat and reinstall windows and everything (thanks a lot McAfee). Unfortunately I hadn't burned any of them to a cd or backed them up. Even though the songs were paid for, I couldn't download them again from iTunes without paying for them again. I checked accounted history etc. on the iTunes help site and it showed I had bought them, so they still had my history. Email from tech support basically said we are sorry for your unfortunate experience, but if you want those songs you have to pay for them again. Oh well, my own fault I suppose for not burning them or backing them up, but it still sucked not being to access something I had already paid for.

Kinda like if you buy a CD and lose it, the store wont just give ya a new one ;)

On topic: I wont touch anything Apple unless I have too (IE: Quicktime movies)

I use winamp. I usually buy my music, but I rip it to Vorbis. Probably illegal but I don't really care too much.

Once you own the media, its perfectly legal to make as many copies as you want...its just illegal to distribute those copies

Nope, it's illegal to make a copy onto anything except for the original medium.

Not according to this article, written by Mark Rasch, SecurityFocus columnist and former head of the Justice Department's computer crime unit

Making an archive copy is okay too, as long as your retain the original. What about a transformative copy -- say, making an MP3 out of a CD? You can do that, so long as you retain the original work. If the original CD get scratched, damaged or lost, you can probably burn the MP3 back to a CD (sans the really "sucky" titles), but this is not entirely clear.

Evnas is correct. In fact, this whole copyright issue was settled years ago when cassette recorders and dubbing decks first came out and was also dealt with when VCR's first came out which is why I find the current debate amusing. The only thing that is different now is the storage media and the ease of distribution over the internet.
