View Full Version : Sound Blaster Audigy 2 NX problem...
Well I just got this "card", and I have a few questions. I finally figured out how to get everything to play through my 5.1 system...I was a bit confused, cause on my old on-board card, I never had to enable CMSS to get 5.1 sound with stereo music.
Anyway, my problem is...there is no subwoofer activity at all. I have "5.1" selected as my speaker set up, and when using the "test" feature, it detects my woofer, and plays a sound through it. But not during normal music/game playing.
Any help would be appreciated...

I had the same problem with my old rig after I added a SB 5.1. Check to see if any of the old onboard sound control programs/drivers are still installed, I had a asus soundman program that keep the card from using the sub-out. After I removed the program it worked great.
Check also that the subwoofer volume in the Surround Sound Mixer is turned on...
It's all the way up Excelsior. I'll try looking for some more programs johnny5c...I'm pretty sure I got everything, including the jumper on the mobo....
Aight, I think I got it. I needed to turn on "Bass Redirection". Thanks for the help.
Er...new problem. I just can't seem to get real 5.1 surround sound to work. Only the simulated CMSS stuff. I'm trying with stuff I know is surround sound...new games, and some movies. Nothing. It just plays on two speakers.
Once again, any help would be appreciated. :(
Make sure that the 5.1 Surround Sound option is turned on... Standard is 2 speakers...

ok then... goto www.soundblaster.com and download there lastest drivers.... see if that fixes anything...

Could having USB 1.1 be causing this? I thought that the only thing USB 2.0 did was enable you to play 5.1/7.1 sound at 96 khz, but maybe I was wrong...
Thats a big possibility because 1.1 has very small amount of bandwidth compared to 2.0

I have the 2 NX as well (for my laptop)... and yes, it does require USB 2.0 in order to send any dolby digital signals to the sound card.
Straight from the NX webpage (http://www.soundblaster.com/products/audigy2NX/):
Playback of 24-bit/96kHz audio in multi-channel requires a USB 2.0 enabled PC/Notebook running Windows XP. Full USB 2.0 audio support requires online software update from Microsoft® and Soundblaster.com when available.
It's mildly ironic (or tragic in your case) that I would mention this in my review (http://www.icrontic.com/index.php?module=reviews&&id=3067):
The lack of certain 24 bit capabilities in USB 1.1 mode is going to be disheartening for some older laptop owners, but this is the fault of the USB 1.1 standard data transfer limitations and not Creative's fault.

Just bought and installed a USB 2.0 card...

Ok then... Check all your connections from the NX system to your Speakers etc... Are you using Analog or Digital?
What speaker system is it???
What Brand PCI USB card did you get???... Check for driver updates...
Well, the speaker set is made by Medion...I can't seem to find a site about them :-/
The USB card chipset seems to be made by ALi...but their drivers crash XP every time I try to install them :-/
I finally got Windows to recognize the USB controller as "enhanced" though, thought that was good enough....

I once had one of their pre-built systems way back in the day...had to reinstall Windows 95 just about weekly, lol

That's what I'm talking about, ALi's drivers crash my system. But I think when Windows identifies the USB controller as "Enhanced", it means it is treating it as USB 2.0...right?

I believe so (even says USB2, correct?).
Be sure of the creative mediacenter settings now. It's likely to be something there or in the dvd playing software preventing the signal.
