I have tried everything I know to get my PIII 650 100 Mhz FPGA CPU to run at 866

Here are my specs

MSI 6163 pro ver 2.0 ( coppermine ready )
650 PIII 100 Mhz FPGA
128 mb dimms ( infineon )
ATI Rage pro 8 Mb AGP
Golden Orb on CPU
486 Fan on BX chip
c: drive IBM 6.4 Gb with DMA enable

OS - tried Win98 se and Win2k

Runs at 866 using for a few minutes then locks up when using most programs

Temps are fine - 32 for CPU , 34 for BX chip

I have tried AGP aperture at 4mb as suggested in an other forum, plus various other settings.

Sad coz I want to improve speed for rendering DV video.

Any ideas ?

Did you try bumping up the core voltage in the bios? I had to raise my P3 650 from 1.65 to 1.8 to get it stable at 6.5x133. Also make sure PCI divisor is set to 1/4 and AGP divisor is set to 1/2 other wise your peripherals will be running way out of spec.

I don't believe there are any settings in the BIos or hardware on the MSI 6163 Pro board for eitherof the Divisors you mention

Did up the core voltage to 1.80 with no effect.

Is this a CA0 stepping?

Try 1.85 and 1.9 briefly. Some 650s need a lot of juice. If you succeed, then get better cooling - as in alpha or golden orb (for slot 1 only). If not you have a dud like I.

I believe it is CBo but can't recall for certain. WIll get it out of the case again and look.

Thing I can't understand is why it did 866 and briefly 911 when I first got it, but it wont run even 866 now :( Actually meant to say in original post that it runs in a Sloket - No Name but Auto sensing, and temps are 32 CPU and 34 BX under full load for hours using PRIME 95
