Hi All, anyone,

Well i got myself into a problem.
I have just reinstalled WinXP over the past week and everything went fine untill last night. Now whenever I use regclean to clean my registry it always gets the same errors upon completion. the undo file is about 32kb long. No matter how many times I run regclean in a row I still get a 32kb undo file. I tried reinstalling regclean, but it still made a 32kb undo file. The only thing I know of that I manually done in the registry was a game I removed manually. Mig Allley had been giving me problems not working properly and so after I installed it this past week and I couldn't get it right on the new WiNXP install I tried to uninstall through the Windows add/remove program program. That didn't work with it hanging the remove program. So I tried through the game's uninstall and that did the same. Finally I manually deleted the game and went into the registry to manually clean what files I could find that was associated with the game. I found several and I ONLY removed files that had the keywords of the game associated with them.(i.e. MIG, MIG ALLEY, Rowan, Empire.....)
Then I ran regclean and I find my problems. tried reinstalling Mig Aleey and then uninstalling again. It did uninstall itself that time but problem presisted. Tried System Restore but that didn't work.

What I really would like to know is what the files are really associated with? I know most can't have anything to do with the game because I only removed about a dozen reg entries concerning the game. So I am at a total loss as to where these error entries really belongs, and to what they belong.

Does anybody have any ideas on what has caused this?
And how to fix it? As I would hate to have to reinstall WinXP again this fast.

Here are some registry entries that are continueously being removed:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{202D3AE F-2F0E-11D1-A1F6-0080C88593A5}\ToolboxBitmap32]

@="C:\\Program Files\\PowerPoint Viewer\\msppt8vr.olb"

The last one shows a connection to PowerPoint Viewer but the program works fine.

All told there is about 100 entries like the ones above.
My WinXP has had all the required updates installed.

I would hate to lose this new install of XP.
So any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Mike

You understand that MS's RegClean isn't compatible with XP/W2K don't you? :)

A little about Regclean.

Haven't had any problems since I 1st purchased WinXP. Up till this anyways. And I don't yet attribute my current problems on Regclean.

Cheers,
Mike

That article is incorrect...RegClean is not compatible with XP, only with Win95/98 and Me. If you use it on an XP/W2K system, you're just asking for trouble...since it deletes specific Keys and Values which it thinks are invalid, but in actuality are valid entries. The Registry structures have changed in XP/W2K since RegClean was originally written, and it doesn't handle those changes correctly. I believe it was just a short time into the XP beta that MS pulled RegClean from their site.

In addition to not working correctly with XP, RegClean is also incompatible with Office XP/2000/2003 as well as Visual Studio...according to the following MSKB article:

OFF: RegClean Finds Registry Errors After You Install Office (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;299958)
