Ok so I bought a new motherboard and cpu. I bought a ASUS Cusl2-c and a 700e PIII (SL45Y) with a FOP38 cooling it. First i burned it in at 700 for a few hours than, I thought "Time to turn the heat up" I set it to 933 @ 1.8 volts. It ran fine but after an hour of any benchmark it would die. The max temp was only about 44c. So i tried to set the voltage up 1.85, it wouldn't even post. So i tried to see how high I could post at 1.8v. Anything over 133 bus wouldn't post either. This was weird i thought. It ran almost good enough at 933 but wouldn't even post at 940. I thought maybe that's all this cpu can do. For about a week i lived with the slightly instable 933. I thought maybe I'll tey on last time. So i set the voltage up to 1.85, and wouldn't you know it posts, boots, and is even now rock solid at 933 @ 1.85v. I tried everything up the max voltage(1.95). It works all the way up to that now. And it runs all the way up 966 mhz now. I haven't tried any stablility tests though at anything above 933 yet, though. Is this just a case of burn in? Or was I doing something wrong before? Anyway, I just thought I'd share my story.

I believe you may be experiencing the "cold boot" problem. What happens is this. When you first power on your system, your CPU is only getting the default voltage(1.65V in this case) regardless of what you might have specified in the BIOS. It does not receive the higher voltage until after it is done posting. So therefore, if your CPU needs more than 1.65V to get started at 933, it will not either not come up or reset itself and come up at the lowest speed(466 MHZ in this case I believe). A way to get around this(although not a very convenient one) is to boot at the lower speed and then after it gets done posting, hit CTRL-ALT-DEL and then enter setup this time and set the higher FSB. It should boot right up this time....at least hopefully.

I know all about the cold boot problem. I haven't had too much problem with that, though.

sounds like another believer of burning em in :)
